Lesser horseshoe bats danced to the top
Two TU Dresden dance ensembles successfully took part in the state competition “Jugend tanzt” Publication in the “Dresdner Universitätsjournal” 20/2012

The children’s and youth dance studio at TU Dresden under the direction of Bärbel Hölzel and the folklore dance ensemble “Thea Maass” from TU Dresden under the direction of Maud Butter won the state competition “Youth dances” on November 25, 2012.

“Jugend tanzt” won in several categories. This is not only thanks to the children’s and students’ dance performances, but also to the elaborately tailored costumes, which could only be purchased with the financial support of the Society of Friends and Sponsors of TU Dresden.

20_2012The state competition was held for the fifth time this year and is organized by the Saxon State Dance Association (SLVT). The repertoire ranges from jazz and show dance to ballet and folk dance. In total, more than 300 children and young people between the ages of eight and 27 took part. The young dancers from all over Saxony were able to hone their skills under expert guidance in workshops. Above all, however, they competed for the coveted delegation to the 2013 national “Jugend tanzt” competition in Paderborn. The children’s and youth dance studio at the TU Dresden achieved this with the following choreographies: “Slovakian Girls’ Dance” in the 12 to 16 age group (category: folklore), “Little Horseshoe Noses” in the 12 to 16 age group (category: show), “Noise Makes You Sick” in the 17 to 25 age group (category: show).

The TUD’s folklore dance ensemble “Thea Maass”, which is recognized throughout Europe, won first place in the folk dance category for the 16 to 27 age group with its choreography “Wer zuerst am Maibaum ist …” (Whoever gets to the maypole first …) and thus the coveted delegation to the “Jugend tanzt” competition in Paderborn.
In previous years, the TU dancers have always come top in the national competitions.
