Dancing lively on the traces of our culture …
Since 1950, the folklore dance ensemble “Thea Maass” of the TU Dresden has been one of the strongest and most artistically distinguished amateur dance groups in Germany.
Under the direction of dance teacher and choreographer Maud Butter, around 40 dancers and musicians are currently dedicated to the cultivation and interpretation of German dance folklore and the dance interpretation of traditional customs from various German regions in sophisticated stage choreographies. The sensitive and responsible handling of our cultural heritage is at the forefront of the creation of thematic and action-oriented works using the diverse means of folkloric dance.
In the spirit of the choreographer and dance director Thea Maass, who worked for the ensemble for many years, the aim of the group is to bring people closer to folklore in all its lively naturalness, expressive richness of form and beauty.
The ensemble, which consists mainly of students and graduates from TU Dresden, has the opportunity to do this not only at regional and national performances, but also as a member of the International Council for the Organization of Folklore Festivals and Folk Art (CIOFF) also at numerous folklore festivals and dance competitions abroad. In contact with folklore groups and people from all over the world, the ensemble not only experiences new impulses in its artistic work, but also contributes to a lively exchange between cultures through its versatility.
