Danetzare 2009
International Folklore Festival Erfurt 2009

This summer, the city of Erfurt once again extended the traditional invitation to the international folklore festival “Danetzare” – and the folklore dance ensemble “Thea Maass” from TU Dresden gladly accepted this invitation. On this weekend in June, Erfurt was transformed into a large stage: international dance groups from Indonesia, Poland, Finland and Belarus, for example, performed at several locations in the city center. The festive opening of the “Danetzare” on Friday was followed on Saturday by a large parade of all participating dancers and musicians in traditional costumes through Erfurt. The folklore dance ensemble “Thea Maass” from the TU Dresden gave a first taste of its stage program. The new program included the “Dreisteyrer”, a Bavarian version of flirting, the “Winzertanz”, which shows that good wine can also be produced and tasted in Germany, and the ensemble’s new choreography “Gaben zur Hochzeit”, which shows the wedding celebration of a Thuringian peasant wedding.

The costumes for this year’s stage program, which were much admired by the audience, could be purchased or repaired thanks to the support of the Friends and Sponsors of the TU Dresden and the Studentenwerk der TU Dresden. In the evening, the numerous international dancers gathered in the Scheune, Erfurt’s party location, to socialize and network with other ensembles. Of course there was also dancing here, but to different music and more in the style of “Dirty Dancing”.
