The folklore dance ensemble \u201cThea Maass\u201d of the TU Dresden is once again organizing a very special event in the summer semester 2025 – the ribbon tree dance for the ceremonial opening of the spring market on Dresden’s Altmarkt.<\/p>\n

The maypole will be erected by Dresden carpenters on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 11 a.m. on the Altmarkt in Dresden. Afterwards, 30 dance enthusiasts, including students and scientists from TU Dresden, will dance the ribbon dance, in which the green and white ribbons are woven into a diamond pattern around the maypole. They are accompanied by 10 live musicians.<\/p>\n

This traditional custom thus remains alive in Dresden. After the setting of the maypole, the TU Dresden folklore dance ensemble \u201cThea Maass\u201d performs choreographies in which spring customs are also depicted in dance. Later on, everyone is invited to \u201cDance into May\u201d and the market hustle and bustle on the Altmarkt begins. Come along and enjoy a beautiful spring day!<\/p>\n

The project is organized by the folklore dance ensemble \u201cThea Maass\u201d of the TU Dresden in cooperation with the City of Dresden and the Dresden Carpenters’ Guild.<\/p>\n
