On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the traditional raising of the maypole by Dresden’s carpenters will take place again this year on Dresden’s Altmarkt. Afterwards, the maypole will be festively danced around in a ribbon dance and the 20-meter-long ribbons will be woven together in a dance. The whole event will be accompanied by a passionful carpenter’s clap, a performance by the folklore dance ensemble “Thea Maass” from the Technical University of Dresden, and community dances for spectators.
The event is organized by the City of Dresden, the Dresden Carpenters’ Guild, and the “Thea Maass” folk dance ensemble of the Technical University of Dresden.
We are looking for 30 people who enjoy dancing for the ribbon dance. No dance experience is necessary. However, participation in ALL 8 rehearsal dates is essential.
