On Saturday, April 25, 2026, at exactly 12 noon, 30 dancers and 15 carpenters gathered around the maypole in Dresden’s Altmarkt. The costumes were vibrant and served as a colorful representation of the dancers’ diverse backgrounds. Together, they sang the “Zimmermannsklatsch” and, of course, clapped along.

After that, four representatives of the Dresden Carpenters’ Guild released four doves of peace as a symbol of hope for world peace. And then the performance began.

For about five minutes, the audience was captivated by this year’s maypole dance. The dancers wove and braided the ribbons beautifully. Some dancers even danced beneath the ribbon web that was taking shape. The performance ended with a round of enthusiastic applause. Afterward, of course, there was a treat for the participating dancers and carpenters: either beer or Apfelschorle. The atmosphere was lively and warm, making for a successful start to May.

In the afternoon, the folk dance troupe took the stage.
The performance began with the Weavers’ Dance, an impressive display and a true debut for many of the ensemble’s dancers. Between the different numbers, the audience also had the opportunity to join in on some lively dances, including the Polonaise, the Fröhlicher Kreis, the Sternpolka, and the Wechselpolka.

The final item on the stage program was “Am Pfingstbrunnen,” an atmospheric spring dance and the perfect finale to the dance festival. We would like to express our gratitude for the opportunity to dance around the maypole once again and to organize a stage program. Many thanks to the City of Dresden and the Dresden Carpenters’ Guild for their support, which made all of this possible.
