The folklore dance ensemble “Thea Maass” of the TU Dresden is once again organizing a very special event in the summer semester 2026 – the ribbon tree dance for the ceremonial opening of the spring market on Dresden’s Altmarkt.
The maypole will be erected by Dresden carpenters on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 11 a.m. on the Altmarkt in Dresden. Afterwards, 30 dance enthusiasts, including students and scientists from TU Dresden, will dance the ribbon dance, in which the green and white ribbons are woven into a diamond pattern around the maypole. They are accompanied by 10 live musicians.
The project is organized by the folklore dance ensemble “Thea Maass” of the TU Dresden in cooperation with the City of Dresden and the Dresden Carpenters’ Guild.
