On April 27, 2024, the traditional raising of the maypole by Dresden’s carpenters will finally take place again on Dresden’s Altmarkt after a 4-year break. Afterwards, the maypole is festively danced around in a ribbon dance and the 20 m long ribbons are danced and braided. The whole event is framed by a hearty carpenter’s clap, a performance by the folklore dance ensemble “Thea Maass” from the TU Dresden and sociable dances for spectators.
The event is organized by the city of Dresden, the Dresden Guild of Carpenters and the folklore dance ensemble “Thea Maass” of the TU Dresden.
We are looking for 30 dance enthusiasts for the ribbon dance, no dance experience is required. However, participation in ALL 8 rehearsal dates is essential.
