A festival atmosphere again at last!
The international folklore festival “Grand Prix der Folklore” took place in Ribnitz-Damgarten from 24-28.06.2020.
The six invited international groups (from Mexico, Serbia, Ukraine, India, Brazil and Cuba) were unable to travel due to the coronavirus pandemic, so the festival management quickly organized an online competition with entries submitted in advance, which was watched and judged by over 20,000 viewers.
At the same time, a meeting was held with three German groups, the hosts(Folklore ensemble Ribnitz-Damgarten), dem Folkloreensemble Rudolstadt and us (the Folkloretanzensemble “Thea Maass” of the TU Dresden), takes place. The groups from Thuringia and Saxony had the opportunity to rehearse on site in the excellently equipped ballet hall and, of course, to enjoy the nearby Baltic Sea beach in the best weather.
For the final program on Sunday, we presented two dances, the Lower Sorbian Freite and the Winzertanz. There was also a live link to the group from India.
Despite social distancing rules, all the spectators could feel the enthusiasm of the individual groups.
